I find it takes a lot of discipline to stick with climate change work. I often imagine a more old-fashioned retirement – working in the garden, sitting on a beach, reading mysteries. Climate change is big and scary, and it’s frustrating to try to bring about meaningful change. But I can’t turn the other way. I draw inspiration from others who have the fire. and I try to soak up a bit of their energy. In the article ‘I’d Rather Fight Like Hell’: Naomi Klein’s Fierce New Resolve to Fight for Climate Justice, Klein speaks with heart and conviction about the urgency of taking action. “So it’s time to come together, for real, and fight to preserve and extend what you care most about – which means engaging in the climate fight, really engaging, as if your life and your life’s work, even life itself, depended on it. Because they do.

Klein is working with Bill McKibben on a campaign of 350.org called Do the Math. “The fossil fuel industry has five times more carbon in its proven reserves, which it intends to extract, than the science says can be burned if we want to avoid climate catastrophe.” That certainly gives one pause.
