Walking into the Green Neighbours 21 (GN21) Eco-Fair of 2011, I was met by an unmistakable hum in the ever lively Wychwood Artscape Barns.  Volunteers, vendors and children dashed about preparing for a day of fun, education and community interaction.

Part of the buzz originated from the many children, their families and the activities designed for them – a new and fresh angle for this Eco-Fair.  Attendees could experience everything from home weatherproofing to solar paneling to kids eco-arts & crafts!  Special thanks to Hillcrest School Solar Inventors’ Club for presenting activities using TREC Education materials.  Russell Leon, guitarist, contributed to the energy and family focus of the event.

Prize draws added to the fun of the day!  Congratulations to Zeny Ricafrente for winning the first prize of a Ceiling fan and to Shana Greenberg, the second prize of a surprise bag of miscellaneous “green” items.

As a first time volunteer with GN21, I was incredibly impressed with the passion, knowledge and organization that translated into this event.  Over 425 of attendees, 8 vendors, 10 non-profit exhibits and 5 kids activities (GN21 colouring, Eco Art with Nelson, Children’s art with Amber, Garbology kids with Sabbithry, and Hillcrest solar inventors’ club with Jennet) later, we can safely say that this was the most successful Eco-Fair for GN21 to date.

Anticipation is already growing for the 2012 Fair on Sunday, November 18, 2012.  Hold the date on your calendar!
